Those Pour Bastards have established themselves as leaders in modern hospitality—recognized for technical mastery, bold concepts, and consistently high standards. Founded by Sam Olguin and Brenon Stuart, the partnership grew from formative experience at the Ritz-Carlton and Binkley’s, and was further refined under Phoenix’s Barter & Shake team, creators of Counter Intuitive, Century Grand, and Undertow. Together, they developed an approach that blends exacting technique with narrative-driven hospitality.

Their first bar, Killer Whale Sex Club, quickly became a cultural touchstone. Named Best New Bar by both Phoenix Magazine and Phoenix New Times in 2020, it went on to earn national recognition as a Top 10 Best U.S. Cocktail Bar – West nominee by the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards.

In 2024, Olguin and Stuart expanded into dining with Pretty Penny, an internationally inspired small-plates restaurant that immediately drew critical acclaim. Awarded Best New Restaurant by Phoenix New Times in 2024, it was also nominated by the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards as a Top 10 Best New Cocktail Bar – West, reflecting the strength of its integrated beverage program.

From Pretty Penny came Legends Never Die, an offshoot that delivers the same caliber of hospitality in a stark, brutalist, European-inspired setting. Where Pretty Penny emphasizes warmth and layered flavor, Legends distills the experience into a minimalist environment—proof of the duo’s ability to adapt their philosophy across styles while maintaining discipline and detail.

Across their portfolio, Those Pour Bastards have earned recognition from local and national institutions alike, including multiple Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards nominations. Olguin and Stuart’s work continues to set benchmarks in both cocktails and cuisine, pushing the boundaries of what modern hospitality can be while staying rooted in precision, originality, and craft.
